I am a producer for the summer musical in Midvale this year and would love suggestions for shows you would like to see. Midvale has 2 rules for their outdoor summer musical: 1) it has to be family friendly and 2) the show must be large enough to accommodate a big cast including children. I would love your suggestions as the rights for my #1 pick is not available. (That would be Hairspray) We would prefer, of course, to not do a show that is or has been done recently locally.
So suggest away!!

Sisi says you should do My My!
BAH! I'm so excited you don't even know! How sad that Hairspray isn't available:(. That would be amazing. Suggestions? I'll get back to ya, I just had to comment! Loves!
Has Music Man been done recently?
Music Man was done 5 years ago or so. Others that have recently been done by Midvale include: Seussical, High School Musical, Footloose, Oklahoma, Music Man, Hello Dolly, Guys and Dolls, and I know I am missing a few...
Not done recently at Midvale or surrounding theaters?
Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favs. There's also: Carousel (lots of dancing), 7 Brides for 7 Brothers (your fav), Bye Bye Birdie, Annie, Chess, Joseph, King and I, Once Upon a Mattress, The Sound of Music, and South Pacific.
I wonder how easy it will be to do a show just after having a baby? :)
My favorite is Jane Eyre - it isn't a huge show - but there are some children's parts at the beginning
Candice, I think it's not going to be quite as easy to do a show right after as it was to do it a while before... and that was pretty tough.
Unless you could get Hutch to work on the nursing thing...
I thought of another - what about Big River?
I think not done recently in Midvale. If another theater is doing it this year we do not want to do it. If however they did a show a few years ago, we would look at it.
I was lovingly um, sorta "asked" by my Primary Pianist to be in the musical she's doing for Sunset City. (I believe her exact words were,"I'm directing a play and you're going to be in it." She knows I owe her big time and she's cashing in her chips.) It's "We the People." I don't know anything about it except it has a big chorus (where she wants me) and it's (clearly) uber-patriotic.
Whatever you choose, make sure you have an awesome choreographer and fabulous music director.... I'm just sayin'...
Brigadoon has a lot of family roles and fun character parts. I have heard though that Murray is doing 7 Brides this year.
PIRATES!
Peter Pan
Tom Sawyer
Annie Get Your Gun
Meet Me in St. Louis (kind of a Christmas musical, but still really good)
I 2nd Fiddler on the Roof and Brigadoon!
Can't wait to see what you do!
And Beauty and the Beast!
