Woe es Me

I had surgery on Monday to remove a cyst that had formed on my wrist, pretty easy surgery. But they found some tendon problems that they were able to fix at the same time... not an easy recovery. My hand is in a cast for a week then in a splint for a month. So I am pretty limited in what I can do like wash, write, live... Two nights ago I woke up because my hand was really cold... well I had been sleeping with my hand out of the covers so I could keep it elevated. Last night my mom helped me with the solution to cold fingers.
I don't remember who gave me these socks a few Christmas's ago, but thanks!! They really came in 'handy'.

#61

#61 - Go to Vegas with Candice and eat one of "her" steaks. My besty is obsessed with steak and rightly so. I like a good piece of steak cooked just right. There is a steakhouse in The Paris Hotel that does steak right... and expensive! On our way to SoCal last week we stopped and had some steak. There were 6 of us for dinner that night because my BIL was able to join us too. The waiter in the pic above sang The Music of the Night to Candice for her birthday, what a voice!

Benefit Bash

My friend Shawn Hauenstein has cancer and spent about 75% of 2008 in the hospital. Having some issues paying his medical bills, we are having a benefit concert for him on January 31. The lineup is frankly a very good one! The info is below and I hope everyone can come, let me know if you need me to set aside some tickets as space is limited.

Saturday January 31 at 6:00 p.m.
Midvale Performing Arts Center
695 West Center Street (7720 South) in Midvale
Suggested donation price $10, though any donation is appreciated

A silent auction will take place as well that will contain baked goods and gift certificates for local services. 100% of the money raised will go directly to Shawn to help pay for a bone marrow transplant he had last year that insurance did not cover.

I have said before, and will say again, CANCER SUCKS!!

Thank You Mr. President

Followers to the blog will know that I am a political junkie. I love it all. So today being Inauguration Day, well it is like Christmas and my birthday all wrapped into one! I have to admit that when President Bush was announced and Hail to the Chief started playing I teared up. Thank you President Bush for 8 years of service to our country; take a much needed rest!

The Oath of Office line flub (really Chief Justice is this the day to go without a script?) made me smile thinking, "Oh great here it comes! The people saying that since the Oath of Office was messed up that he really is not legally the President." LOL. I add my welcome and support to President Obama. I look forward to a new administration and a new era in American history. I admit again that when Hail to the Chief played after the Oath of Office I teared up again.

I loved this image of the new administration and wives bidding farewell to the outgoing President's family. I watched the Inauguration during work, sitting next to my bosses in the conference room. The last time we all were huddled around the TV like that was on September 11.

Again I say Thank You Mr. President(s)!

From 80-18

Ever take a vacation in January to a warm climate? Sometimes when one has been in SoCal for a week where it has been 80+ and comes back to Utah where it is below 20... well for some reason it feels colder! I guess I should not complain, I hear it is super cold again in Chicago... like cold cold!!

I don't like limitations

I have to have surgery on my wrist to remove a cyst and possibly fix my tendon. Until this happens (in 2 weeks) I am supposed to wear a wrist brace which limits my movement. I do not like it. I do not like not being able to do everything that I usually do. I think my mother is getting great satisfaction in telling me (many times a day) "Put your brace on!" which I do because for months and months I have been telling her to "Get back in bed!" Payback really is a ... well I should not use that word since Mom reads my blog! And yes, I just put my brace back on, Mother!

#80 & #81

On my list of 101 I set two finance goals that have been accomplished or will be by the end of this week. For a full list see the link on the side called My 101.

#80 - Ask for a raise
Yesterday I asked for a raise at work and got it!! I was nervous because my boss thinks our industry is going to be hit with economic woes soon and he will have to let people go. I think he is a doom seeker sometimes. He came in to my office and asked me to compile a list of the current salary people are making because he wanted to do cost of living raises. I compiled the list and when I took it in I asked him if I could talk to him about something that has to do with raises. I told him what I thought I deserved in an extra raise that was not cost of living and I actually got it. I was shocked. He of course told me he would like me to accomplish one more thing to earn it monthly, but I told him it would be no problem.

#81 - Take a class on economics
I changed one of my classes in school to be a finance class to fulfil this goal and it is finals week for it. So far I am getting a B (horror!) but that is just my midterm grade. I think I am in actuality I will raise that a bit. I have really learned a lot from this class and I am glad I took it.

I am also working on #27 right now. I am hosting a benefit concert at January 31 for a friend of mine who has cancer and cannot pay all of his bills. There will be more information on this coming soon. I have asked a few of my very talented friends to help me organize or perform (I did not have room for all of my talented friends so if you were not invited to perform please do not be offended, and I hope you all can come see the concert, again more info to come!)

I love this list! Thanks Wretchel!! 8 down; 93 to go!

Thanks Amie

Thanks Amie for the link idea above. Candice and I are actually going to Disneyland for her birthday!

A Hairy Experiment

One thing we have noticed recently in our family is that grey hair grows back faster than ones normally colored hair. I noticed this as I have found 3 or so long grey hair on my head. My younger brother, who has turned abnormally early grey, is covered with longer grey hair than black. And my mother's hair started growing back last week (YEA!!!) and from what we can see it is ALL grey. That is not true, there is a patch of black that never died on the back of her hair. But don't tell her that because she is so excited that her hair is growing back, but sad because she was hoping for dark hair again... and curly I think. However my hair also is growing back much darker than it was before. Well not right before we shaved it because I had dyed it black. Before that it was a lighter brown, now it is really dark brown. I wonder if I can find a picture to share...

Roll Call

I learned this weekend that I have lurkers... people I never even knew had my blog address. Raise your hand, please!! I say this because one of the lurkers is a friend from years ago when I lived in Chicago.

The title of this post is an homage to one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musicals.... can you name it?
