Apparently

So apparently there were no fat people involved in the French Revolution. It seems that the average size of the women in the French Revolution was a 4-6… However, the good news is that the men wore amazingly pretty clothing! LOL

I went last night to Hale’s production of The Scarlet Pimpernel. It was the first time I had seen this show (yes ever) and I really liked it. I might have a slight crush on JJMcB! Don’t tell him though! Overall it was a great show. The stage and costumes were wonderful, and I was so in love with Percy and the boys!

If you have not seen this show, I would strongly encourage it! www.halecentretheatre.org

New Music Finds

Two wonderful artists were introduced to me recently and I love their work and want to pass it along to you as well. You might like them too. Plus they are not so bad to look at, either!

First Besty introduced me to Scott Alan who is a songwriter. His work is more for the Broadway lover (he is working on a show now) but he has really clever lyrics and music that just sucks me in.
As a whole I like the cd Keys more, however a few songs on Dreaming Wide Awake are some of the best I have heard and so I listen to it more. I am in love with the songs Home and Never Neverland; the lyrics of Now are heartbreaking.

The second artist is Josh Rosenthal; I am a real big fan of the SLC Foodie blog Vintage Maker (see the button on the right of my blog to visit often!) and this is the blogger's husband.

His new project is a suite of music called Village Suite which will be 4 cds in 4 months. The first cd to be released is a 5 song Overture to the suite. It is a sampling of what is coming on his suite project. He explains Overture on his blog; I love his version of Down to the River to Pray. The download for Overture on iTunes is less than $5 and well worth it.
Enjoy... or don't... but I had to share!

Vaca Week

I leave this week for my big weekend in Boulder. If you are anything like me you tend to get rather snarky vacation week. I am caught up at work, in fact it is rather slow right now, so today in an attempt to not bite anyone's head off I brought in my newest project: The 5 row Rubix Cube. Brother taught me to do the 3 row, I taught Sister, she taught Younger. Well Sister learned this one faster than I did (overachiever!) but it was good for me, because she sent me the missing solving piece via Google Chat! (I love technology)

I normally would feel bad about sitting at my desk and playing a game, but my boss thought it was cool I was even trying to solve it! :)

BSC

My nephew and I formed a club today, the BSC (Back Surgery Club). We discussed it at length, and he is going to be the President and I the Treasurer (he thinks I am good with money!)

LB had surgery Monday to fix a birth defect, Dermal Sinus Tract (a form of spina bifida.) He did so great! He is still up at Primary Children's at least until tomorrow. What a cutie, though. The doctors are confident that he will now live a healthy and normal life!

This is LB a few weeks ago, just hanging out and looking styling.

Shortly after surgery, a little drugged up. How sweet is he?

Impressive 4" scar. Mine is 5" but his will grow a little with him so that is why he is the pres. He took a nap on me today, how cute is this little one?

What would we do...?

I have been home ill for the past few days with a nasty ear infection (at least it is not bells palsy like the doctor at first thought). Day 1 and 2 were spent mostly on pain meds (it is that bad) and I caught up on some old TiVo that was hanging around. I now am caught up on Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Psych (I love that USA does their season spring and summer!) so today I am rocking out to oldies. I watched To Catch A Thief and some Jane Austen Masterpiece Theater versions. What would we do without Jane Austen? My favorite is Persuasion. Although the new Sense and Sensibility is pretty awesome too. Oh and Mansfield Park. And Northanger Abbey. Again, what would we do without Jane Austen? I know it is not Austen, but I am also a fan of Jane Eyre. Now if I would just read the books!

Would You Rather?

Here is the scenario: I am going to Boulder at the end of the month for 4 days. Planned activities include: A session at the Denver Temple, fly fishing lesson and guided tour (full day), Broncos v Bears game (go Bears!).

One night there are 2 activities that sound kind of interesting, so I pose the question to you: Would you rather
1) go see a band you have never seen or heard of? (Delta Spirit, an indie rock sound)

b) go to a drag show? (as in men in women’s clothing, sounds interesting right?)

or last) do nothing and sit by the pool with a good book?

AND WHY? Alright, discuss…

Amazing. Period.

Last night I went to see Cirque du Soleil: Saltimbanco at the E-Center in Salt Lake. After a rather unimpressive dinner at Chili’s (the waiter apparently did not actually put in our order so we sat there for 45 minutes… not the point of this story) we were rather speechless at the end of Cirque, or as a coworker called it “The Circus.” I had been to a Cirque show before and knew I was in for a treat, but this one was far more impressive than La Reve in Las Vegas, though La Reve was showier.

Our seats were on row 1 of the lower bowl, there were probably 4 rows of floor seating in front of us. The shear strength, flexibility and talent these men and women have are beyond description. My only disappointment was that not every seat in the house was filled.

These are links to YouTube videos that are earlier performances of my favorite acts in the show. The hand balancers were different men so their act was slightly different, but the trapeze duo looks similar. Truly amazing. I wish I had time to go again since they are here in Utah through Sunday.

What I Have Learned From My Personal Trainer

1 – Even though your legs feel like they might fall off, they will not
2 – When your trainer says “You can do one more” you typically can
3 – Water is our friend
4 – Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are brain food
5 – Heart rate monitors are a very good thing
6 – If your core is not strong it does not matter how strong your legs and arms are
7 – Eating enough calories is the key to losing weight
8 – You do not need a fancy gym to lose weight; all you really need a little bit of instruction and some floor space
9 – You cannot do anything well without a good pair of gym shoes
10 – 5 pound hand weights will kick your butt
11 – The elliptical machine will become your friend (I have yet to reach this)
12 – Once endorphins kick in, there is nothing like a workout high
13 – Eating a small carb and a protien an hour before a hard workout is important
14 – The glossy glaze you get in your eyes after a hard workout is normal, eat some food and it goes away
15 – If you don’t feel it 24-36 hours later, you did not work hard enough
16 – It is a lot harder to lose weight than it is to gain it
17 – Strain is good, pain is bad
18 – The ‘dead cockroach’ will kick your but faster than crunches
19 – If the area being worked is not shaking, you are not done working it
20 – It is okay to rest; it is never okay to give up
